Forced name change after more than 2yrs

I'm an officer of a Gilrain kinship and long time LOTRO player, as with all services and products, even the ones you really like are not spared from bad experiences as we all know.

I can accept outages, bugs, changes I don't like, and tons of other problems and issues, but his really makes me annoyed.

One of our kinship members had the name changed of one of his characters by a GM. The character name was changed to something "our of the blue" and when he inquired as to why the name was changed he got a generic copy and paste referring all potential ways a name could break the rule see below, but no indication as to what was the problem in this case. Motivation:

"There is a Zero Tolerance rule in effect for the following name violations:

Sexually explicit, defamatory, obscene, racially or ethnically offensive names or slang. Common names, slang or references to drug related substances, culture or paraphernalia. Names causing harm, mockery or imitation of Lord of the Rings Online players or NPCs, in addition to Turbine, Inc. employees, past or present"

The character in question has been played for more than two years and the same name is used in several other online games, among them large competitive MMOs, and have never raised any concerned. In our kin we have native speakers of more than nine different languages with several more as second languages, and nobody can understand how to interpret the name in a way that violates any the stated rules.

Keeping the gaming experience clean and free from names that could offend someone is a worthy goal, but can't supersede customers care, all employees of all commercial entities have to remember that customers actually pay their salary.

If your character names suddenly after 2 years time out of the blue is deemed in violation by GM, they should inform the individual and request that he change with a clear reference to why the name is considered in violation. If that can't be done for some reason, at least the account should get a credit for a free name change after the name has been changed.

In this case the reply given was more inline with, if you don't like the name we assigned, you can pay to change it.

Nothing annoys people more than "justice" that appear pseudo random and can't be motivated, especially when amplified with a "punishment", forced name change in this case that you can only revoke or appeal by paying.

Some of the voice chat in the kin this evening would cause pip pip pip pip in US national TV.
