This is purely a topic I'd like opinions on - simply whether roleplaying restrictions should be adhered to at all times, or whether the roleplayer should consider other non roleplaying people, primarily in fellowships, i.e. would a fellowship respect one player's choice to have (for example) a champion using only a single one handed sword, or a player who does not wear the full number of rings, bracelets etc that they are entitled to? Or would the player be expected to play for the benefit of the group and carry any equipment required?
I started thinking of this after re reading the Fellowship of the Ring and being reminded that Aragorn was wandering Middle Earth (and presumably had been for many years) only carrying the Blade that was Broken. A ranger carrying a broken sword into every battle is not the sort of thing many groups would accept!
